My Wedding Day
My wedding day!
I slowly walked inside the church escorted by the best man. Together with the best man, we were dressed in blue suits. The congregation was happy to receive me. So I walked majestically and inside the church and when I sat down, everyone else sat down.
“Let's welcome our bridegroom with shouts and ululations.” The pastor announced happily. Everyone did so and a slow romance music started beaming smoothly in the speakers. Everyone then went to their phones, maybe waiting to ululate again when the bride would come.
“Seems a bright day!” The best man whispered to me.
“Yes indeed!” I whispered back to him. Sooner than later, ululations were heard outside and everyone stood up. I followed suit. The bride had arrived. The bridal party marched in dancing with unique but uniform styles. Sooner, the bride was escorted inside the church. When we all sat down the service began.
Minutes flew inexorably. I was now stating the wedding vows to wear my bride a ring.
“...in health and in sickness…” I said as I slowly let the ring slide in her middle finger. Before I slid it to her ring finger, a lady sitting at the back looked at me with piercing eyes. Her mouth was wide open as if she did not want me to do it. When everyone was silent waiting for the ring to fall in its place, her mouth was wide open and I nearly laughed as she dropped a lump of saliva which she wiped quickly. My bride was looking at me wondering who I was looking at.
“Uuwii!” She screamed suddenly then she collapsed! People ran to attend to her, with the wedding being set at a standstill. My bride still looked at me inquisitively. I knew she demanded to know answers. The pastor looked at me shocked. The best man was also wondering. My parents and my in-laws could not also understand what was going on. I still held the wedding ring.
The woman was led outside by a group of first aiders. However, my eyes never left the scene. I watched them attend to her from where I stood beside the bride, holding her hand with one hand and the ring with the other.
“Can we now proceed?” The pastor said and everyone settled. However, I could not stop watching outside.
“My love!” My bride called, “Let's proceed. I'm sure she will be taken care of!”
“My brother!” My best man called, “You don't want to let her spoil your wedding, do you?” I was still silent. I wondered why the woman had fainted. She was a friend to my bride. Did she have any feelings for me? I never knew she could go to that extent.
“In the name of the Father…” the pastor said to make me concentrate and place the ring in its place. When I was about to place it, the woman began shouting. Everyone's attention was diverted.
“Please SAM!” She shouted, “Don't do it! Don't do it!” She continuously cried. My bride was getting impatient. She almost took the ring by force when I snatched it away from her.
“No! I shouted, “We have to know why she is saying that!”
“What is it, my love!” My bride cried. “Leave her alone. Maybe she is mad!” I grabbed the microphone from the pastor and walked outside quickly to where the woman was lying.
“Please start talking,” I urged her, “Why are you telling me not to do it?”
“The woman you're about to marry is a married woman!” The woman shouted and I quickly brought the microphone close to her to amplify her voice.
“How do you know that?” I asked.
“She is my friend. She wants to get married to you then later kill you and take all your wealth so that she can spend it with the love of her life who is not even in this country!” All attention was diverted to the bride.
“What is she saying?” I asked her (the bride) angrily. The bride fainted! ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ¥²ðŸ¥²
